Issue 3: Self-Trust

Issue 3

Hi Reader,

Last week I went to an appointment with the LA County Department of Health Services. It was basically an interview in front of an expert panel to see where they would place me in their scoring system of qualified and experienced workers.

The night before, my inner critic was loud. I was convinced I would freeze, fail, and forget everything I knew.

Instead, I received the highest possible score: 100.

Come and read my new blog to learn how I scored the highest score of 100 using my self-trust formula.

Mental Health Tool: Affirmations

Reader, I’m sure you’ve heard of affirmations. It’s what I left you with in this week’s blog.

Affirmations are positive declarations such as:
“I am worthy,”
“Money flows to me,”
or “I am a badass chingona and no one can say otherwise.”

Affirmations can be any declaration you choose to create for yourself.

According to Merriam-Webster, affirmation is defined as:
“the act of affirming one's own worthiness and value as an individual for beneficial effect (such as increasing one's confidence or raising self-esteem).”

But why are affirmations a tool we are often encouraged to practice?

The science behind affirmations suggests that they can help counter the effects of stress and improve performance, particularly for people who experience chronic systemic stress, such as women in male-dominated fields or Black students in predominantly white institutions.

In these types of environments, affirmations can become a powerful tool that helps the brain open up to difficult challenges—like giving a presentation or performing well in an interview—thereby improving performance.

When positive performance is reinforced by the environment around us, it can further strengthen self-confidence and create a positive feedback loop.

Affirmations can help activate our sense of self-efficacy, reminding us that we are capable of navigating challenges even when we feel uncertain or intimidated.

So the next time you have a job interview, are taking a test, or are launching a new project, remember to practice self-affirmations to help increase your confidence, ground yourself, and create a more positive experience.
