Take a Day

Hi there Reader,

This week on the Beabosscoaching Podcast I interviewed Yvonne Armenta. Yvonne is a public speaker, speaking consultant, podcaster and founder of ¡Latina Presente! She is a UC Berkeley alumni and a highly sought-after speaking professional. Yes, she is awesome. But what I love most is that she is an introvert - just like me- and one that shines in the spotlight.

Come listen to the latest episode of my podcast and hear - or see- for yourself how incredible she is. A true gem and an authentically kind person, you can’t help but want to be part of her close friends group.

But enough doting. She knows how awesome she is. However, two introverts having a conversation will spark some deep thinking as we both say. And deep thinking taps into our deepest energies.

Because I’m an introvert I like to think of myself as a cell phone.

And much like our cell phones that often require constant charging, we too need time to recharge our mental and emotional well-being.

I used to think of myself as an iPhone 4 from the early mid 2000’s - a relic perpetually low on energy. I was quickly drained with activities like networking, podcast interviews-even coaching.

But I’ve upgraded recently. I am now like a Pixel 7, no longer the latest model, but undoubtedly more enduring. This progression has equipped me with the tools to prioritize self-care, of course with my occasional lapses.

What I’m trying to say is…be cognizant of burn-out, upgrade your self-care and take a day to rest.

While we build and improve our self-care routines, we have to remember to actually use them!

Take a Day

So here is the question of the hour: When was the last time you took a day to rest?

A full unbothered, uninterrupted day to rest and simply be with your own pleasures?

I admit that it's been at least three weeks since I'd taken a day off for myself, which is surprising, but validates for me the fact that I have in fact learned better ways to take care of myself.

Though it’s not always easy to pause unless someone reminds you.

My calendar nowadays is filled with events—networking functions, brunches with friends, seminars... name it I’m probably there. Yet, like the ambitious humans that we are, we’ve been conditioned to prioritize everything but much-needed time off.

So here’s a strategy I’m going to try and one I’m going to share with you:

Schedule your OFF days.

Put them on your calendar and prioritize them when they arrive. Scheduling your OFF days makes it easier to stick to work deadlines AND to create time for your mental, emotional and overall well-being.

Prioritize a day where you do what you need to recharge and attack your subsequent working days with renewed energy.

Burnout is an easy trap to fall into as entrepreneurs and small business owners so I hope my question gets you thinking about the last time you took a full day off and to intentionally schedule your OFF days in the coming weeks.

Whether you schedule OFF days every three days or two days out of the month, start where you feel the most comfortable and take it from there.

This weekend I’m going to Palm Springs and I can’t wait to relax, eat, sleep-in and watch TV all day.

Before I sign off, let me share a few ideas for both my introverted entrepreneurs who enjoy a simple day at home and my energetic-always-running-around busy bees.

First the introverts:

  • Journal, write or spend time reading.
  • Watch TV all day - one of my favorite shows that I recently binged watched is Hacks on MAX.
  • Listen intentionally to the instruments in your favorite music. It lights up and tickles your brain if you’re a person that is moved by melodies and voices. I’m one of those people which is probably why I love musicals.
  • Have a dance party with songs you haven’t listened to since middle school-WARNING: this can be very nostalgic and bring you down a big rabbit hole of old songs which have you wondering if they still hit like they used to and spend more time doing this than intended. Then again that’s ok because it’s your day off. 🙂

For the busy bees:

  • Watch a movie with a friend - I highly recommend Wicked (10/10 no notes)
  • Catch up with a friend at a restaurant you’ve been wanting to try
  • Host a cheese night. What a great excuse to eat cheese and bring friends together.
  • Explore your hometown's hidden gems—museums, parks, unexplored parts of town.

Ultimately, whether you're an introvert or a busy bee, your day off is yours to enjoy, recharge, and rejuvenate. Share with me what you did on your much-needed break; I am excited at reconnecting over a virtual coffee chat. Remember, it’s not just about surviving; it’s about thriving with intention and balance.

Last week I hosted a focus group and networking session for people to come and share their challenges as entrepreneurs and also connect with other entrepreneurs in the space.

Come to the session today from 2-3 PM PST! Register at the link below. And if today doesn't work, I have a last session on 12/5. Hope to see you there!
